Infamous St. Paul gangster Alvin “Creepy” Karpis will haunt the very place in which he was tried in 1936, in a Landmark Center Trial Reenactment. Presented in a format that plays off the 1970s’ Walter Cronkite television program, “You Are There” as the dramatic backdrop, the case unfolds as one hears from famous historical characters including Governor Floyd B. Olson, J. Edgar Hoover, the Barker-Karpis gang, and more. The re-enactment of the historic trial of Alvin “Creepy” Karpis will take place in St. Paul’s historic Landmark Center on Wednesday, April 30 and Thursday, May 1 (Law Day), 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ramsey County Room (Courtroom 317). Former Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Esther Tomljanovich will deliver a welcome address, and join an all-star cast of other prominent Minnesota jurists, legal practitioners and academicians who will trade robes for costumes in bringing this dramatic trial to life. The re-enactment performance is free and open to the public. A post-performance presentation and reception with the cast will immediately follow the performance. The event is co-sponsored by William Mitchell College of Law and made possible in part by the Otto Bremer Foundation and the Hardenbergh Foundation.
