The Schubert Club - Saint Paul Summer Song Fest

The Schubert Club once again will feature their "Saint Paul Summer Song Fest" for the week of June 9th. This year's series will put the spotlight on composer Vaughann Williams, an influential English composer of symphonies, chamber music, opera, choral music, and film scores. He was also an important collector of English folk music and song. These noon-time concerts are all free and on Wednesday will feature Dan Dressen, tenor & Tim Lovelace on piano. Landmark Center - Visitor Information Center Grand Opening

Today the series features Dakota Dave Hull, whose guitar style spans a wide musical geography to create an infectious, uniquely personal blend of jazz, ragtime, folk, blues, Western swing, and vintage pop.

July 10th
TRACES - Four Documentary Shorts
Galleria; 12pm; FREE
TRACES features four documentary shorts done by Minnesota filmmakers about Minnesota World War II veterans. The films include a story of a veteran who served with the ski troops of the 10th Mountain Division during the war and veterans who served in key battles to defend Europe and the Pacific. At the program, the filmmakers will give a brief narrative of their films and they and the film subjects will participate in a question and answer session with the audience after the films.

He's a Singer/songwriter who draws inspiration from 50/60's pop. (Beach Boys, Everly Brothers, Dylan, Beatles), while hinting at elements of more modern day bands  such as The Shins, Belle & Sebastian, and Dr. Dog.

Cellists that use all 8 amplified strings to sing, squawk, scream, growl and purr their way through an eclectic repertoire ranging from Bach to Led Zeppelin, to their own improvisational, and jazz-influenced compositions.

August 6th

Anita’s Café will be filled with strains of solo saxophone, classical piano, jazz vocals, accordion, xylophone, fingerstyle roots guitar and so much more! Today the series features the Spaghetti Western String Co. Banjo, guitar, mandolin and more will be featured in this set from Nicholas Lemme and Big Mike Rossetto of the Twin Cities' most unique and remarkable quartet. Nicholas is a genre hopping musician who boasts a love of jazz, classical, bluegrass, and rock, and has performed with the prestigious choral group The Dale Warland Singers.  Michael is the originator/founding member of Spaghetti Western String Co. and handles the duties of banjo and guitar.

August 13th

Anita’s Café will be filled with strains of solo saxophone, classical piano, jazz vocals, accordion, xylophone, fingerstyle roots guitar and so much more! Today the series features Katie Condon. Katie teaches piano at MacPhail Center for Music. In addition, she is the Narrator/Education Consultant for the WAMSO Kinder Konzert Series for the Minnesota Orchestra and has accompanied the Zenon Dance Company, the Northwestern University Early Music Ensemble, and silent film screenings for Minnesota Film Arts.  She is currently in the Piano Pedagogy Graduate Program at the University of St. Thomas , St. Paul .

August 20th

Anita’s Café will be filled with strains of solo saxophone, classical piano, jazz vocals, accordion, xylophone, fingerstyle roots guitar and so much more! Today the series features Vicky Mountain & James Allen. Vicky Mountain and James Allen will perform the music of the well known vocal/guitar duet, Ella Fitgerald and Joe Pass, w ho have performed jazz standards together for over 20 years. They will also discuss these two artists’ individual styles, and explain the chemistry that made Ella and Joe’s music legendary. James Allen performs regularly with his duo playing jazz and blues, with Cuerda y Madera playing Latin jazz, with Gypsy Mania playing gypsy jazz and freelances. Vicky Mountain has been part of the Twin Cities jazz scene since 1976­singing in her own groups and as a freelance performer in concerts, clubs and clinics.
