Urban Expedition - Travel the world without leaving Saint Paul!


Landmark Center kicks off its 10th anniversary year of the popular Urban Expedition program, which provides families with an opportunity to learn about the world right here in Saint Paul’s backyard.  The five individual programs provide authentic cultural experiences that include music, dance, crafts and traditions from different destination countries. Featured countries for the 2014 season are:

Urban Expedition:  Spain – Sunday, January 19
Featuring Sendero Flamenco and the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet

Urban Expedition:  Finland – Sunday, February 9
Featuring Kip Peltoniemi, Kisarit Finnish Folkdancers and
Finnish Stories Charms & Songs from Kari Tauring & Lynetter Reini-Grandell

Urban Expedition:  Cambodia – Sunday, March 2
Co-presented with the United Cambodian Association of Minnesota

Urban Expedition: Senegal – Sunday, April 13
Co-presented with the Senegalese Association of Minnesota

Urban Expedition:  Brazil – Sunday, May 18
Featuring Ticket to Brasil Band & Dancers

All programs are from 1 to 3 pm and are FREE and open to the public.  Children and adults alike receive a travel “passport” that will be stamped for each country in the series. In honor of the 10th anniversary, Landmark Center will be giving away special prizes for those who come to Urban Expeditions in 2014.. Along with music and dance, each Urban Expedition features live animals native to the featured country, and co-sponsor Concordia Language Villages will be present to provide language lessons and information about their language camps.

Urban Expedition is a part of Sundays at Landmark, an event series is produced by Minnesota Landmarks, the nonprofit programming and management agency for Landmark Center. Urban Expedition is sponsored by Travelers, Ecolab, Concordia Language Villages, Minnesota Parent and RBC Wealth Management.  Landmark Center is owned and sponsored by Ramsey County and managed by Minnesota Landmarks, a nonprofit programming and management agency. It is located at 75 West 5th Street, facing Rice Park, next to the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts and The Saint Paul Hotel. Landmark Center is accessible to those with impaired mobility, and visitors are encouraged to call ahead with any special needs requests.
