SUMMARY:13th Annual Italian Film Festival of Minneapolis / St. Paul: Mysteries (I Misteri)
DESCRIPTION:Four Sicilian popular feasts tell about ancient traditions and spectacular rites–ones often either not well known or considered “extremely dangerous”. In the cyclical alternation of seasons\, the communities of either fishermen or farmers spend several months of preparatory work leading up to these events\, and finding in them full expression of their collective identity. The ancestral link with the territory is identified with a specific natural element\, richly representative of that place. The film is the final stage of the Sicily Folk Doc\, a project of a documentary series devoted to Sicilian popular feasts. Its protagonist is the community that spends so many months diligently preparing for these events\, finding in them their identity.
