SUMMARY:Opening Reception: Nimble Observers "In the Moment"
DESCRIPTION:The North Gallery’s current exhibition\, “Nimble Observers:  In the Moment\,” is a collection of life drawing sketches by the group\, Nimble Observers\, who meet regularly for life drawing class in Landmark Center. The public is invited to meet the artists at the opening reception on Thursday\, June 6 from 5pm-7pm.  The opening will include wine and other light refreshments. \nIn the artists’ words: \nWe put our impressions on paper quickly\, creating a two-dimensional drawing from three-dimensional models. And we don’t give ourselves much time: the models hold a pose for one to ten minutes-sometimes 15 but never more. We sketch our impressions\, our feelings\, and don’t try to produce a piece of art. Sketching is all about learning how to see: the details\, shadows\, form\, emotion…little things. \n

SUMMARY:"Pure Iowa Water" - A "Pop Art" Exhibition by Christine Curry
DESCRIPTION:PURE IOWA WATER: AN EXHIBITION\nPure Iowa Water Exhibition: Sponsored by LWVSP and coming to the Landmark Center July 26-Aug 4! \n“I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want.”\nAndy Warhol\n \nPURE IOWA WATER ~ POP ART PROJECT is an Andy Warhol-inspired Pop Art project with an environmental message. \nThis project addresses Iowa’s poor water quality problems that plague the entire state and beyond. \nIt is designed to ignite and spark conversation by creating impactful\, oversized 2D and 3D advertising graphics and labels on 16 oz. aluminum cans and a video production that clearly depicts Iowa’s water quality problems by promoting a fictitious sparkling water company that bottles pure water directly from Iowa streams. \nIt showcases champion conservation farmers from each of the represented watersheds to show how land management can be part of the solution. These farmers are doing the right thing for our water\, and they deserve to be recognized and heroized. \n       \nHOW-THE DETAILS…\nThe (fictitious) company\, “PURE IOWA ~ SPARKLING STREAM WATER\,” appears to be a respectable Iowa company\, but the fine print suggests otherwise.
