DESCRIPTION:This August\, Landmark Center’s North Gallery will feature Making It Home: From Việt Nam to Minnesota\, a powerful exhibition that traces the stories of Vietnamese immigrants and refugees who have built new lives and lasting legacies in Minnesota over the past five decades. Through personal artifacts\, photographs\, and oral histories\, the exhibit offers an intimate look at the resilience\, culture\, and community spirit that define the Vietnamese American experience. From August 17 through September 21\, visitors are invited to explore this moving tribute to heritage\, home\, and identity. \nJoin us Sunday\, August 17 from 11 am – 3 pm for the exhibit opening and community celebration event marking the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon (1975–2025). This heartfelt occasion honors the journey and achievements of Vietnamese Americans since their arrival. Attendees can explore historical and cultural displays\, artifacts\, interactive activities\, panel discussions\, oral histories\, photo collages\, crafting\, and cultural performances.

The quartet is known for visceral live performances and original music that crosses modern tango\, chamber music\, new classical\, and far-reaching contemporary influences. A forward-driven acoustic powerhouse featuring bandoneonist Charles Gorczynski\, violinist Devan Moran\, pianist Alex Woods\, and bassist Nick Gaudette. \nMinneapolis-based composer and bandoneonist Charles Gorczynski works in contemporary tango\, new music\, and studio production. He is the director of Minneapolis-based Twin Cities Tango Collective and Minnesota Tango Music Festival\, and his projects Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet\, Redwood Tango Ensemble\, and Colorlist have toured North America and Europe extensively\, playing thousands of tango events around the world. Charles has released five albums of original contemporary tango music and premiered his compositions with Chamber Music Northwest Festival and the San Francisco International Arts Festival\, worked with Buenos Aires based organization Tango Sin Fin\, and has been featured soloist with the Bear Valley Symphony\, Dubuque Symphony Orchestra\, Cheyenne Symphony Orchestra\, the Chicago Chorale\, Vocal Essence at Orchestra Hall\, Mercury Soul Orchestra\, San Jose Chamber Orchestra\, and many other organizations. Charles has recorded and toured with international tango projects\, including Mariano Barreiro Tango Trio\, Tango BC Quartet\, Alejandro Ziegler Cuarteto\, Maxi Larrea Trio\, Maldito Tango\, and the Latin Grammy nominated Los Tangueros Del Oeste. \nAlexander Woods is a pianist and music teacher living in the Twin Cities\, MN. A versatile and collaborative musician\, his passions include art song\, instrumental and chamber works\, choral music\, contemporary piano repertoire\, and a variety of jazz and popular styles. He strives to maintain an innovative perspective in his performances\, seeking out new and old works from diverse genres and composers. As tango pianist he is a member of Orquesta Típica Kingfield and the Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet\, and has worked with Exequiel Mantega and Pablo Jaurena. Woods is a Lecturer of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire\, where he teaches applied piano lessons\, class piano\, and an honors colloquium exploring music and gender. He holds additional positions at Central Presbyterian Church (St. Paul) and Voices of Hope Prison Music Initiative\, and has also spent summers as a staff pianist at Borromeo Music Festival (Altdorf\, Switzerland)\, International Cello Institute (Northfield\, MN)\, and St. Croix Valley Opera Summer Vocal Institute (Hudson\, WI). As a freelance pianist and vocal coach\, Woods has worked at UW-Eau Claire\, the University of Minnesota\, Gustavus Adolphus College\, and the NATS\, Schubert Club\, and Thursday Musical competitions. He has also played with the Mississippi Valley Orchestra\, Dakota Valley Symphony & Chorus\, South Metro Chorale\, and St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral Orchestra. \nViolinist Devan Moran is a founding member of Twin Cities Tango Collective\, Orquesta Tipica Kingfield\, and Charles Gorczynski Tango Quartet. He has studied tango with Guillermo Rubino (Diego Schissi Quinteto\, Sur Del Sur)\, offered workshops to local violinists interested in the style\, and served as lead violinist for the resident ensemble of Tango Sin Fin at Reed College. Devan holds a BM from North Park University in Chicago\, and studied with the assistant concertmaster and principal violist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has also studied with Young-Nam Kim in Minnesota and Lina Bahn at the University of Colorado Boulder. Devan also performs widely with the Laurels String Quartet and 10th Wave Chamber Music Collective. \nBassist Nick Gaudette picked up a cello and tuned it as a bass at the age of 5 and has continued playing classical and non-classical music ever since. After completing a Bachelors and Masters in Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music\, Nick helped form the chamber music fiddle project called The Orange Mighty Trio\, which has performed across the country including both coasts ranging from Seattle to L.A. to NYC in addition to writing scores for multiple indie films and commercials. Nick has performed with the Chanhassen Dinner Theater\, Theater Latte Da\, The Children’s Theater\, The South Dakota Symphony\, as well as various other groups across the midwest. He is also a progressive composer writing works for the Trio\, local modern dance companies\, the Macalaster big band\, as well as writing and co-directing the eclectic new-age ensembles called the Cherry Spoon Collective. He was a recipient of the 416 Club Commissions by the Cedar Cultural Center as well as a State Arts Board Artists Initiative grant. Originally a part time educator and full time performer\, Nick was given the opportunity to head the music department at the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists (SPCPA) where he set an intense high school musical arts curriculum on aspiring 21st century artists in grades 9-12. While at SPCPA\, Nick returned to get his MN teaching license along with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Mankato State University. Shortly after receiving his official teaching credentials\, Nick took the position at Edina High School where he resides today. As the conductor of Sinfonia\, Varsity\, and Concert Orchestra\, Nick has recorded with the EHS Chamber Orchestra in Studio M at MPR and has traveled with the EHS symphony orchestra on an international tour to the Western Caribbean. He is also a recipient of the Edina Education Fund grants for classroom teachers.

This series features accomplished musicians and composers from the Twin Cities and surrounding area\, as well as occasional musical newcomers to the area. These one-hour concerts are free and open to the public. \n• Mark Billy\, BARITONE\n• Kiegan Ryan\, CELLO\n• Josh Wang\, PIANO \nAbout the Artists: \nMark Billy is the leading Indigenous baritone of his generation. Mark is a 2025 winner of the McKnight Fellowship for Musicians in recognition of his sustained level of accomplishment in music as well as his commitment to artistic excellence. Mark is also a 2025 First Peoples’ Fund Native American Performing arts fellow. He is a Verdi baritone\, clarinetist\, and Cedar flutist of Indigenous (Choctaw tribe) ancestry from Finley\, Oklahoma. Mark is at the forefront of the current musical movement which combines the sacred cultural music of the Indigenous peoples and Western concert music. He enjoys a multi-faceted career in opera\, recitals with piano\, concerts with orchestra\, and Indigenous classical music education. \nIn the spring of 2026 Mark will make his debut with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra singing in Cherokee and playing the Cedar flute in a concert curated by him featuring a new concerto for Cedar flute and orchestra by Kiegan Ryan and a new solo piece composed by Choctaw composer Charles Shadle. \nIn February of 2025 Mark joined the musicians of Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts  to reprise the role of Inki’ in Loksi’ Shaali’ (Shell Shaker) written by Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate. Loksi’ Shaali’ is the first ever opera written in an Indigenous language\, Chickasaw. In 2024 he was a founding creator of Opera Montana’s Wheels of Harmony Tour\, bringing classical operatic repertoire and music by living Indigenous composers to reservation and public schools throughout the state of Montana. He is on faculty at the Chickasaw Summer Arts Academy. Mark is an original artist on the roster for the North American Indigenous Songbook initiative which seeks to fill the gap of art song repertoire composed by living Indigenous composers. \nIn April 2025 Mr. Billy joined the Oklahoma City Philharmonic in the world premiere of Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate’s American Indian Symphony.  Mark has sung as orchestral soloist with numerous professional orchestras and opera companies including the Rochester Symphony (Paukenmesse\, Haydn)\, Bach Society of Minnesota (Mozart’s Requiem)\, Minnesota Orchestra\, Duluth Superior Symphony (Carmina Burana)\, Oklahoma City Philharmonic\, Opera Montana (Rigoletto)\, Madison Opera (Tosca)\, Lubbock Symphony (Carmina Burana). \nMark is the recipient of several awards and performance grants including the Music in Action Grant from the Wagner Society of the Upper Midwest\, Opera Reading Project’s IDEA Fellowship\, first prize in the St. Croix Valley Opera Competition and first prize in the Schubert Club Competition. Mark has been a young artist with Hawaii Opera Theatre and with Fargo Moorhead Opera. Mark was a national finalist in the Ryan Opera Center auditions at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.  Mark’s major teachers have been George Smith\, Richard Anderson\, Carol Vaness\, Marilyn Horne\, and David Etheridge (clarinet). \nMark Billy is under the management of Kathy Olsen at Encompass Arts. \nKiegan Ryan is a citizen of the Cherokee nation\, a cellist and a composer of contemporary classical music. He composes chamber music\, art song\, opera\, orchestral music and film scores. Kiegan had his compositional debut with the Oklahoma Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra in 2022 with Kanohelvsgi\, written for String Orchestra. Kiegan recently had his Cherokee song cycle ᎧᏃᎮᎸᏍᎩ ᏧᏂᎶᏒᎯ (songs from where they journeyed from) performed at Lincoln Center and at the Juilliard School. Ryan recently had the honor of scoring Oklahoma City University’s mainstage production of King Lear. In the spring of 2026 Kiegan will make his soloist and compositional debut with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra in a concert featuring his Cherokee song cycle Kanohelvsgi Tsunilosvhi and a newly written concerto for Cedar flute and orchestra performed by Mark Billy. \nIn November of 2024\, Kiegan made his debut as a soloist and a composer with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. In October of this year\, he will make his mainstage debut with the Philharmonic in the Classics Series\, in a concert entitled Oklahoma Stories: Celebrating our future. In this concert\, he will perform his original composition Kiowa Six as the cello soloist. Kiegan is a commissioned composer for the North American Indigenous Songbook initiative and will premier an original composition in New York. Kiegan recently composed a song cycle on the writings of Cherokee Chief Wilma Mankiller that was premiered in March at the Juilliard School. Kiegan is the lead cello instructor at El Sistema Oklahoma- a non-profit that provides free music opportunities five days a week after school during the school year to students attending Oklahoma City Public Schools. \nKiegan has had performances at National Sawdust\, Juilliard\, Lincoln Center and Yellowstone’s All Nations Teepee Village.  He has had works performed by Opera Montana\, Oklahoma City Philharmonic\, 48 hour Film Festival\, North American Indigenous Songbook\, Schubert Club and Victory Players at MIFA Theatre. \nHe grew up in Broken Arrow\, Oklahoma\, and is currently completing his graduate degree in composition and cello performance from Oklahoma City University\, studying with Edward Knight and Emily Stoops. \nJosh Wang is a Minneapolis-based musician specializing in choral conducting\, organ\, piano. He currently serves as Director of Sacred Music at the Church of Saint Mary in Lowertown\, Saint Paul\, where he leads the parish’s schola and polyphony choir\, and curates a growing program of guest musicians—including a recent collaboration with internationally acclaimed composer Sir James MacMillan. Additionally\, he serves as an assistant organist at the Cathedral of Saint Paul. \nIn addition to his church work\, Josh serves as the choir director at Holy Spirit Academy in Monticello where he directs the all-school choir\, chamber choir and teaches an elective in sacred music. Starting in the fall of 2025 he will be the founding music teacher at the Saint Augustine School in Mendota Heights\, working with students in grades 6-12. \nJosh holds degrees in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater (B.M.) and Bowling Green State University (M.M.)\, and a Master of Sacred Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Notre Dame\, where he studied with Carmen Téllez and Mark Doerries. He is a member of the Church Music Association of America\, American Choral Directors Association\, and the American Guild of Organists.
