Listen to Romanian classical and folk music.\nNicoleta Cornea polymer clay demo 2:30-3 pm\, room 317. Observe a demo on how to make jewelry with polymer clay or get new ideas of how to be creative. You can also purchase beautiful jewelry made by the artist.\nIzvorasul dance ensemble 3:30-4 pm\, room 317. Watch Romanian traditional folk dances and join in learning some of the steps.\nMartisor making 2-4 pm\, room 317. Get creative making “Martisor”\, a traditional spring lucky charm usually given on March 1st as a symbol of love. Materials will be supplied and no existing experience is needed. This event is open to everyone\, seats are on a first come\, first served basis.\n\nThis event is curated by HORA Romanian American Cultural Center Director Raluca Octav\, and made possible with help from MN Landmarks and voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council\, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

SUMMARY:13th Italian Film Festival of Minneapolis / St. Paul: The King of Laughter (Qui Rido Io)
DESCRIPTION:At the beginning of the twentieth century\, in the Naples of the Belle Époque\, theaters and cinemas are on the rise. The great comedian Eduardo Scarpetta (Toni Servillo) is the box-office king. Success made him a very rich man: from his humble origins\, he established himself on the scene with his comedies and the mask and character of Felice Sciosciammocca\, who managed to replace Pulcinella in the hearts of the Neapolitan audiences. The theater is his life\, and his complex family core gravitates around the theater\, with wives\, companions\, lovers\, legitimate and illegitimate children including Titina\, Eduardo and Peppino De Filippo. At the height of his success\, Scarpetta allows himself what will prove to be a dangerous gamble. He decides to parody the play “The Daughter of Iorio\,” a tragedy by the greatest Italian poet of the time\, Gabriele D’Annunzio. On opening night\, all hell breaks loose: the play is interrupted by screams\, whistles and insults from the poets and playwrights of the new generation who cry out scandal\, and Scarpetta ends up being sued for plagiarism by D’Annunzio himself. And so the first historic copyright lawsuit in Italy begins. The years of the trial will be exhausting for him and his whole family\, so much so that the delicate balance that held it together seems on the verge of dissolving. DESCRIPTION:Four Sicilian popular feasts tell about ancient traditions and spectacular rites–ones often either not well known or considered “extremely dangerous”. In the cyclical alternation of seasons\, the communities of either fishermen or farmers spend several months of preparatory work leading up to these events\, and finding in them full expression of their collective identity. The ancestral link with the territory is identified with a specific natural element\, richly representative of that place. The film is the final stage of the Sicily Folk Doc\, a project of a documentary series devoted to Sicilian popular feasts. Its protagonist is the community that spends so many months diligently preparing for these events\, finding in them their identity. DESCRIPTION:TCGMC is brightening spirits this December! In addition to celebrating the winter holidays\, we’re also celebrating the return to live singing! \nPresenting live concerts for the first time since December 2019\, TCGMC is doing it in a big\, majestic way at the historic Landmark Center. There Will Be Light is inspired by the song\, “Light\,” from the musical Next to Normal and serves as musical affirmation that\, indeed\, we have the opportunity to emerge out of darkness and into light as a more loving\, inclusive\, community. \nIn addition to timeless holiday favorites\, TCGMC will present a wide variety of repertoire such as an Islamic prayer about the light of Allah\, the music of Sweet Honey in the Rock\, and the unveiling of our newest commissioned work\, “Love Comes Home\,” by the world-renowned composer Kim André Arnesen! \nProof of COVID-19 vaccination will be required at the door for all audience members eligible to receive a vaccine\, or proof of a negative test within 72 hours of the concert.

His fresh approach to the much-maligned squeezebox and his mind-boggling repertoire of both original and traditional material will change the mind of the most hardened accordion skeptic. He draws influences for songs and tunes from such sources as French Musette\, Swing\, Cajun\, Jug band blues\, Celtic and Scandinavian music. Newton entertains and also enlightens his audiences with stories and colorful anecdotes about the accordion and his experiences making a living playing the instrument he loves.\nTICKETS

DESCRIPTION:The Star of the North Concert Band is a non-profit\, charitable organization of over fifty musicians from the Minneapolis and St. Paul communities in Minnesota. The group was organized in 1994 to contribute to Minnesota’s musical tradition by providing an opportunity for local accomplished musicians to share their talents\, develop their abilities\, and make contacts with other performing musicians (locally\, nationally\, and internationally) via rehearsals\, concerts\, and tours.
