SUMMARY:Global Book Club: The Dissent Channel – American Diplomacy in a Dishonest Age
DESCRIPTION:In her new book\, “The Dissent Channel: American Diplomacy in a Dishonest Age\,” author and former diplomat Elizabeth Shackelford recounts her assignment in South Sudan\, and offers a firsthand example of devolving state of U.S. foreign policy and accountability around the world. Winner of the 2020 Douglas Dillon Award for a Book of Distinction on the Practice of American Diplomacy\, “The Dissent Channel” exposes a foreign policy driven more by inertia than principles\, to suit short-term political needs over long-term strategies. \nJoin us for a virtual conversation with former U.S. Foreign Service Officer Elizabeth Shackelford as she discusses\, “The Dissent Channel” and her experience as a diplomat during the precarious rise and devastating fall of the world’s newest country\, South Sudan.

SUMMARY:Landmark LIVE: Mary Bue
DESCRIPTION:Please note we require all guests to present proof of either full COVID-19 vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours prior to attending. \n\nAmericana\, roots\, and folk music fans can get tickets for Landmark Center’s fall concert series!\nAll Landmark Live concerts are presented by Landmark Center with sponsorship support from KFAI Radio and the Pioneer Press. Each performance is hosted by personalities from KFAI Radio.\n\nSchedule:\n7:00 pm – Cocktail hour\n7:30 pm – Doors open for seating\n8:00 pm – Concert\n\n________________________________________\nMary Bue is a songwriter\, Nada yogi\, traveler\, runner\, vegan\, retreat guide\, music + yoga teacher based out of Minneapolis\, often roaming this beautiful world. Her newest album “The World is Your Lover” is a synthesis of her seven-plus releases\, merging pianos and guitars\, spiritual longing\, and real-world sorrow. Her previous albums achingly express life in melancholy piano-poems\, yet in 2015 Mary risked a genre switch to aggressive electric guitars\, concise lyricism\, and a nod to 90’s grunge. Not one to bow to popular music trends\, Mary has stayed true to her own sound\, evolving and about to emerge\, butterfly-like\, with support from her new band collaboration Mary Bue & the Monarchy (a nod to the precious pollinator that graces Minnesota summers). A prolific songwriter\, Mary’s music touches upon archetypal themes of the human condition: love\, loss\, triumph\, dreams\, and the natural world.\nTICKETS
