In conjunction with the Latvian Song and Dance Festival\, Landmark Center and the Festival are co-hosting an exhibit to celebrate Latvian visual arts! \nThe art exhibition will take place in the North Gallery from June 2-July 3. The Twin Cities were the long-time home of world-renowned expressionist painter Jānis Kalmīte. He is best known for his iconic paintings of “rijas\,” or “threshing barns\,” that played a central role for Latvian homesteads and farm families for generations. This exhibition encompasses the idea of “place” within works of art created by American Latvian artists in recent years in both daily and cultural life. The exhibit is a juried show that includes paintings\, drawings\, graphics\, photographs\, and sculpture; including Latvian artists from across the US\, and even from Latvia. \nMākslas Rija is open during Landmark Center’s normal business hours.  \n\nMonday-Friday\, 8 am – 5 pm\nThursday\, 8 am – 8 pm\nSaturday\, 10 am – 5 pm\nSunday\, 12 – 5 pm\n\nThe Latvian art exhibit is one of several festival events organizers are presenting in Landmark Center during the Festival. The music of Dee Brust\, David Perry\, Adam Stemple\, and Ann Viviano is four lead vocals\, tandem guitars\, fiddle\, bass\, and mandolin to take you to the river\, the mine\, the mystic\, the mountain\, the shady grove\, and the devil’s backbone. DESCRIPTION:The long-running duo of vocalist Lee Engele and guitarist Reynold Philipsek makes a return appearance to the Jazz Fest. A veteran of local big bands\, small ensembles\, and theater; Lee has released a number of recordings to date\, two with Reynold. She has performed in New York and at major Twin Cities and Midwest venues. Reynold Philipsek is one of the area’s most prolific artists and has appeared on nearly fifty recordings either under his own name or in support of other artists His guitar (and voice) can be heard in the ensembles East Side and Side Wall Café.
