Erik Jon Olson Artist Talk
November 18 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am
Free
Using quilted plastic waste, Erik Jon Olson creates works that confront consumerism, mass consumption, and unfettered capitalism. Layering environmental concerns with social justice, the art underscores humanity’s alienation from nature and each other, exposing our wastefulness and need for healing.
Olson’s process follows an ethos of minimal waste: each piece uses discarded plastics, pallet wrap for batting, overstock or gifted thread, and secondhand sewing machines. Even scraps are saved for future works, reinforcing the message of sustainability in the art itself.
Join us Tuesday November 18th at 10:30 am in the North Gallery for a special artist talk! Olson will speak on his artistic process and how his work seeks to challenge major environmental and social issues we are currently facing. This artist talk is free and open to the public.
