Boiled in Lead is the longest-running Celtic punk band in America, and an important part of the foundation of what became Minnesota punk rock. Bob Mould was among those who praised the band’s first self-released LP (“Even the fiddles rock,”) and the Hüskers invited the band to play an early show at Goofy’s Upper Deck. An Onion A&E quote describes the band’s approach well: “…the prime purveyor of a style of Celtic music infused with punk-rock attitude, developing over the years with a hard-driving swirl that combined Irish folk with heavy rock and elements of styles from all over the world. …one of the best bands Minnesota’s ever produced. …even without amplification, Boiled In Lead can summon up furious punk-folk energy.” Boiled in Lead features Todd Menton (vocals, guitar, mandolin, bodhrán, whistle), Drew Miller (bass guitar, dulcimer), Morris Engel (drum kit) and Haley Olson (violin, vocals).
Summer Nights in Rice is presented by Rice Park Association in conjunction with the Twin Cities Mobile Jazz Project, with support from the Saint Paul Cultural STAR Program and program sponsors the Historic Hamm Building, Landmark Center, Landmark Tower Apartments & Sherman Associates, Park Towers Condominium Association, Schubert Club and The Saint Paul Hotel-The Grill.
In case of rain or inclement weather, concerts will be moved into Landmark Center. Restroom facilities for the concerts will be available at Landmark Center throughout the series.
