Outdoor Painters of Minnesota: Love for Minnesota
The “Outdoor Painters of Minnesota” (plein air painters) present a juried collection of original paintings depicting notable state landmarks in celebration of Minnesota Landmarks, Inc.’s 50th anniversary. “Love for Minnesota” is Landmark Center’s Summer Art Program and will run from June 18 through the end of August in Landmark Center’s North Gallery and online. (Check Landmark Center’s website for updates on building reopening due to COVID-19 closure)
The plein air art collective came up with the idea of painting beloved locations and landmarks around the state, in celebration of their host’s 50th anniversary. In 1970, a group of determined citizens successfully rallied to save the “Old Federal Courts Building” from the wrecking ball, then formed a nonprofit, Minnesota Landmarks, Inc. to raise the money for its subsequent restoration and re-purposing into a community cultural center and home for the arts. Today, Minnesota Landmarks, Inc. continues as the non-profit management and programming agency for Landmark Center. The beautiful art by the plein air painters celebrates landmarks throughout our state, with love for all – but one, in particular.
