Summer Nights in Rice: Mississippi
June 19 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreeCelebrate summer with live music, dancing, and community vibes at Summer Nights in Rice, a free outdoor concert series held on select Thursdays from 5–7 PM, June through September, in beautiful Rice Park. June 19th features contemporary jazz combo, Mississippi. Mississippi is made up of four all-star Minneapolis/St. Paul based musicians: Pete Whitman-saxophones, Jordan Anderson-piano (filling in for Kavy Kaviraj), Jeff Bailey-bass and Kevin Washington-drums. The music of Mississippi may be described as an intense blend of colors and eclectic traditions that include modern jazz, festejo, hip hop and African influences. Wild and burnin’ one moment, soft and sweet the next…, this group has an emotional and creative range that is not to be missed! Described by Andrea Canter of Jazz Police, “Mississippi flows with beauty and power, blending folkloric and modern jazz elements…”
Grab a bite or sip at a nearby restaurant, then enjoy an evening of incredible local talent, festive energy, and warm-weather fun. After the show, keep the night going by heading to Lowertown Sounds in nearby Mears Park for even more live music! Upcoming Summer Nights in Rice performances:
